So you want to do something but you can’t start to do it. Today I have a way for you to solve it.

Let’s get started!

Some example first

Before jumping straight into a solution, do you find yourself in these examples?

  • Tom wants to be fit and healthier, so he plans to go to the gym. The first day, Tom was so excited, he woke up at 5 am, went straight to the gym, did his weightlifting. Then on the second day, Tom had aches all over his muscles, then when the 5 am clock rang. Thinking about the far-away gym, the aches and laziness took over him. Tom didn’t leave his warm beg.

  • Let’s say, Julia, Julia has always wanted to do some DIY projects such as flower pots, bookshelf. But always, after a long working day, Julia was so tired and she just watched some Netflix, telling herself to do the DIY idea later, and later, and later…

  • Mike is a student. He just went to school for the first day after summer vacation and get a low mark for his summer homework. Why does he have a low mark? One month earlier, he received his summer homework. He considered between sitting at the table and doing all the homework or playing some video games. Can you guess what he chose?

In the above example, Mike knew how important the homework is, but he couldn’t get started to do it until the deadline was too close and of course, the quality of the homework was bad.

Are you Tom with his gym and self-improvement idea? are you Julia with her side-project? are you Mike with his homework and task? can you find the common?

What then?

So why couldn’t we do something, it probably something are stopping you from it, something comfortable, the warm beg, video games, the tiredness… So a solution is you need to make what you want to do easier to start. Once you started, almost nothing can stop you from doing it, you have more inspiration for doing it, and a high percentage that you will continue to do it (the 5 minute-rule), so make it easier to start!

Let me give you some examples of how to do it with a solution. For Tom, the night before, he could prepare his gym bag, place his jogging shoes at the door. And Julia may place some bottles or plastic material near her desk in the morning and when she comes back home, she can start DIY immediately. About Mike, he can keep playing and just prepare her notebook on the desk, later on, when she finds it, it will be much easier for her to get started, and much more motivation to start.

The 3 examples above was my experience. I remember when I was small, every time my family was going to have a picnic. I was so excited, prepared everything for the trip the night before, wore my favorite shirt, placed those shoes at the entrance, and it was so easy and fun to go. Those shoes and shirt likely say “hey, you are going to go for a picnic!”.

Conclusion

we should make it easier for ourselves to start doing something then we will tend to do it more.

These are just some small actions, it all may take about 1–2 minutes to do but they give a huge motivation for you to get things done, I hope you have something takeaway.

“The hardest part is starting. Once you get that out of the way, you’ll find the rest of the journey much easier.”
